Do YOU remember where you were? I sure do…

I remember getting ready for work that morning…

I, like, NEVER watch the news but I felt really compelled that morning to turn on CNN…

I did and about 15 minutes later was the story of the first plane hitting…

And then the 2nd not too long after…

And then I left for work and heard on the radio of the 3rd hitting the Pentagon…

And then at work we were watching TV (who wasn’t?) and heard of the 4th plane that went down…

We all knew that our lives were never going to be the same…

I remember the tears…

the questions of why…

the questions of who…

the questions of what was next.

I also remember gathering with the people in my town that Saturday evening
for a candle-light vigil…

That was the most incredible thing I have ever seen…

For once, the United States of America was TRULY united…

Man, Woman, Child…

Young and Old…

Blacks and whites and everything in between…

Catholics, Lutherans, Jewish… Atheists…

All truly united for one reason…

Remembering that we ALL are AMERICANS.

We held hands, held each other, chanting… “USA! USA! USA!”

It was that moment when I looked around,
and I realized what it truly meant to be FREE…

No, I will never forget…

The WORLD will never forget…

OK, so as you know, I work as a hairstylist. The salon I work at takes walk-ins, mainly. We only take actual appointment times for perms, colors, tanning, special occasion styles… yeah I think that’s it…
so the rest is on a walk-in basis.

On Friday morning, I took the next person waiting on the list for a haircut. We’ll call her Jane, cuz if you read my last work-related rant, you know I protect the smart-until-proven-stupid by anonymity

Here’s how it went…

Jane: *sitting waiting, talking on her cell phone*
Me: “Jane, if you’re ready I can take you back now!”

(side note, this was 11:45 am)

Jane walks back, still talking on the phone, one of our style books en tow…
Before sitting in my chair, Jane does take a minute and shows me the picture she found of how she would like her hair cut. I grab the book and study the picture as she sits down in my chair, still carrying on her important phone conversation.

I stood and waited for like, 30 seconds to a minute for Jane  to finish up her phone call, holding onto my cutting cape.

Jane: *still talking on phone takes a break to tell me…*
“Um, you can put that on me!” (referring to the cape)

Me: “Well, I can’t really cut your hair while you are talking on the phone…”

So I figured that MAYBE that would be an indication that she should end her phone conversation so I could cut her hair. Hmm, maybe I expected too much from Ms. Jane… because she proceeded to continue her phone conversation for another SIX minutes… I kid you NOT!

I stood there for SEVEN minutes total, waiting for her to get her butt off of her phone, and she finally, at 11:52 am, says…

Jane: “Um, You can take the next person if you want, I have to go, I have to work at NOON.”

WTF?!?

And she walked out, saying that she would have to come back tomorrow, to which I thought, “good, cuz I’m off tomorrow and won’t have to deal with your stupid ass!” lol…

Which brings me to the point of this whole thing… common sense, people!!

I wonder who she was talking to, must have been someone pretty fucking important to keep me waiting for almost 10 minutes with her bullshit, not to mention the time wasted out of her OWN day…

No brains, no headaches I guess… wow…

So our lesson for today? PLEASE turn your phone off when you are coming in to get your hair cut. This is why they make voicemail, people!!! If it’s that important, they will leave you a message and you can call them back!!!

Seriously… *shakes head*….

*gets down off of soap box*

On a lighter note, the lady I gave a hair cut (and I flat-ironed her hair after too) after Jane was so happy with me she asked for my card, AND she didn’t talk on her phone the entire time (she said hers was OFF… AMEN!!!)

AND…

As she got up to leave, I noticed what was on her bag…

TWILIGHT, BABY!!!

So I said to her, “You mean we *could* have been talking about Twilight this WHOLE time and we weren’t???” LOL

She promised me that next time we would…

See you in 6 to 8 weeks, Twilight lady

OK, so instead of seeing dead people, I just see stupid/rude ones, lol…

Anyway…

If you read my first blog post and/or my “About Me” page, you know that I work as a hairstylist.

Of course, if any of you have worked with the public at any point of time in your working careers, you will be able to relate to this, at least a little…

So yesterday started off in a shitteous fashion… woke up with a bit of a headache that I couldn’t shake, and when I was doing my very first haircut of the day, it drifted into migraine status… *ugh*

NOT good…

Of course I am unable to leave work for 3 reasons:

#1, there is no one available to replace me on such short notice…

#2, I can’t afford to go home unless I am on my death bed, and even THEN I will seriously think about staying at work until I actually flatline…
(*beeeeep* lol…)

and #3, I have a request customer for a perm appointment in the morning
(which never makes for a good day in itself cuz I LOATHE doing them…
but I digress…)

So I power through… even though once the smell of the perm solution hit my nose I thought I was going to die on impact as my head was pulsating with every breath I took in… but onward I pressed…

Fuckin’ Mondays… ugh…

Lucky for me, my headache/migraine starts to finally break after lunch-ish…

So, Monday’s finally starting to look up, even though the rest of the afternoon is deader than Haley Joel Osment’s friends…
But we get a surge of customers within the last half-hour or 45 minutes of my day (which ended at 5 pm).

Just when I was about ready to leave… I had about 20 minutes left…
I go up front to take a lady that walked in for a haircut…

I call her back…

“Connie***, come on over!!”
(***name has been changed to protect the stupid)

And she says… I tell you no lie…
“I don’t want *YOUU* to cut my hair.”
(insert Connie’s scowling fugly face here… surprised the stupid troll didn’t stick out her tongue at me when she said it…)

And this was me, thinking to myself in disbelief…
Seriously? Did you just fucking say that to me, biatch??
(insert MY KillingYouWithAJediMindTrick look here…)

Y’know, in the field of hairstyling (and any customer service job in general) there’s gonna just be some customers that don’t like you. I get that.
I’ve been doing hair for over 14 years now, and I’ve gotten pretty thick-skinned when it comes to that kind of stuff…

But to blatantly come out and say it like that…
HOW in the blue FUCK do you not take offense to that?!

I don’t care that she didn’t want me to cut her stupid fucking helmet hair,
but to just come out and say it so abruptly like that…
This is what the sea urchin the nice lady *should* have said…

Me: “Connie, come on over!”
Connie: “Well, um, if you don’t mind, I’d like her (*points*) to do my hair,
she did it last time and I really liked it…”
Me: “Oh sure, that’s not a problem!”
(complete with me not wanting to leave flaming dog poo
on her front porch, among other things)

The point of this little rant?

There’s a way to get what you want
without being so rude and/or stupid, people!!!
Some people are just five pounds of stupid in a one pound bag… ugh…

The worst part of the whole thing was…
that my fiancee was there when this happened.
He met me at my work cuz we were going to
run an errand together when I was done.
He teased me about it all evening after the fact…

Boys… ugh… lol…

Since this is my first post on my brand spankin’ new blog, I shall share a little bit about ME

My name is Laura, I am a 30-something who is from Somewhere in Wisconsin, USA. I live with my husband-to-be (getting married on 16October09!!!) and our 4 cats (Daisy, Salty, Gabby and Ozzy.) I work as a hairstylist.

What are you going to see on this blog? Well, hopefully a little bit of everything, but I am a Twilight and a Robert Pattinson junkie (and not necessarily in that order!) so I’m just giving you a forewarning!
